MAGICAL CUSCO 2 (4D-3N)
Itinerary:
Day 1: Cusco – City Tour
Upon your arrival in Cusco and having left your luggage at the hotel of
your choice, we’ll visit (on an old-time cable car or on foot) the city’s
ancestral neighborhoods and the Qoricancha (Qori=Gold and Cancha=Enclosure),
also known as the heart of the Tawantinsuyu (Tawa= Four and Suyu=Region). In
fact, the Inca state was divided into four regions or provinces, and Cusco
was its capital city. We’ll also visit Sacsayhuaman (Sacsay=Satisfied and
Huaman=Falcon) and other important archaeological sites nearby. This portion
can also be done on horseback (optional). In the evening, we’ll enjoy a
performance of folkloric dances, followed by a night’s rest.
Day 2: Cusco – Chinchero – Moray – Maras – Ollantaytambo
After breakfast, we’ll take a bus to Chinchero, the Rainbow City. From
there, we’ll visit Moray and its Inca-period experimental agricultural
center. Then, we’ll visit the salt mines in Maras and share a country-style
lunch typical of the Andean region. In the afternoon, we’ll take a guided
tour of Ollantaytambo’s archaeological complex, and after dinner, we’ll
spend the night in Ollantaytambo.
Day 3: Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes –
Cusco
First we’ll catch the train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu’s
neighboring village). Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, we’ll settle down at
a hostel and take a bus up to the Historical Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.
First, we’ll take a guided visit of the Sanctuary, followed by a chance to
visit the local museum and Machu Picchu’s Botanical Gardens. In the
afternoon, we’ll take the train back to Cusco.
